About the GitHub Actions Workflow Generator

The GitHub Actions Workflow Generator creates a .github/workflows/ci.yml for Node.js (npm, yarn or pnpm), Python, Java with Maven or Gradle, Go, .NET and Rust. It sets up the toolchain with dependency caching, an optional version matrix, lint, build and test steps, minimal permissions, optional artifact upload and an optional Docker build-and-push job for GHCR or Docker Hub.

How to use the GitHub Actions Workflow Generator

  1. Pick the project type, branches and triggers.
  2. Adjust the versions and any install, lint, build or test commands, or leave them empty for the defaults.
  3. Click Generate workflow and save it as .github/workflows/ci.yml.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need for the Docker publish job?

A Dockerfile in the repository root. GHCR uses the built-in GITHUB_TOKEN; Docker Hub needs the repository secrets DOCKERHUB_USERNAME and DOCKERHUB_TOKEN.

Are the actions pinned?

They are pinned to major versions such as actions/checkout@v4. For stricter supply-chain security, pin them to full commit SHAs. The tool also uses minimal contents: read permissions.

Are my data stored when I use the GitHub Actions Workflow Generator?

The text you submit is processed in memory to produce the result and is not saved. Like any web server, Code Converter logs basic visit data (page, IP address and browser) but never the content you paste.

Is the GitHub Actions Workflow Generator free, and can I call it from a script?

It is free and needs no account or signup. The same tool is available as a REST endpoint at POST /api/github-actions-generator; see the API documentation for the fields and examples.
