Terraform Validator
Paste Terraform code to catch syntax errors, duplicate declarations, references to undeclared variables, locals, resources, data sources or modules, missing required arguments, and unused variables. It is a static check without provider schemas, so it complements, not replaces, terraform validate.
About the Terraform Validator
The Terraform Validator parses your HCL and reports syntax errors, duplicate resource, variable, output and module declarations, references to undeclared variables, locals, data sources, resources and modules, missing required arguments for common resources, and variables or locals that are never used. It also suggests pinning required_version and providers.
How to use the Terraform Validator
- Paste your Terraform code.
- Click Validate.
- Fix the errors and warnings in the findings table.
Frequently asked questions
Does it replace terraform validate?
No. It does not load provider schemas, so it cannot check every attribute of every resource. It catches the structural and reference mistakes that need no provider, and complements terraform validate and plan.
What does it check for missing arguments?
A built-in list of required arguments for common resource types such as aws_instance and aws_lambda_function, plus required value and source arguments for outputs and modules.
Are my data stored when I use the Terraform Validator?
The text you submit is processed in memory to produce the result and is not saved. Like any web server, Code Converter logs basic visit data (page, IP address and browser) but never the content you paste.
Is the Terraform Validator free, and can I call it from a script?
It is free and needs no account or signup. The same tool is available as a REST endpoint at POST /api/terraform-validate; see the API documentation for the fields and examples.
